Donald J. Trump, in an unusual educational outreach, sits down with inner city pupils in Cleveland, and talks about charter schools. Trump is the only Republican candidate since the late Jack Kemp who has promoted urban renewal and improved living conditions for minorities in the inner cities. And, ironically, your editor notes that President Obama banned charter schools in Washington, D. C., which deprived those inner-city kids of a high-quality education. It was among his first acts as president, just a payback to the teachers’ unions who supported his election. All the teachers’ unions seem to support are maintaining low standards, slovenliness of dress, and long vacations in the Greek Isles.
