President Trump Speaks on Tax Reform

Wednesday, August 30th: President Trump visits a manufacturing plant in Springfield, Missouri, where the historic Route 66 begins.  Here, DJT makes a powerful speech in which he explains his tax-reforming plan, how it is vital to undoing the decades-long damage that has been done to the U.S. economy, and why implementing his corrections to the tax-system is essential for the well-being of  individuals and small businesses. The president also gives an accounting of the administration’s extensive assistance to the flooded areas in the Gulf of Mexico.

From WhiteHouse.gov:

Bringing Back Jobs and Growth

Since the recession of 2008, American workers and businesses have suffered through the slowest economic recovery since World War II. The U.S. lost nearly 300,000 manufacturing jobs during this period, while the share of Americans in the work force plummeted to lows not seen since the 1970s, the national debt doubled, and middle class got smaller. To get the economy back on track, President Trump has outlined a bold plan to create 25 million new American jobs in the next decade and return to 4 percent annual economic growth.

The plan starts with pro-growth tax reform to help American workers and businesses keep more of their hard-earned dollars. The President’s plan will lower rates for Americans in every tax bracket, simplify the tax code, and reduce the U.S. corporate tax rate, which is one of the highest in the world. Fixing a tax code that is outdated, overly complex, and too onerous will unleash America’s economy, creating millions of new jobs and boosting economic growth.

As a lifelong job-creator and businessman, the President also knows how important it is to get Washington out of the way of America’s small businesses, entrepreneurs, and workers. In 2015 alone, federal regulations cost the American economy more than $2 trillion. That is why the President has proposed a moratorium on new federal regulations and is ordering the heads of federal agencies and departments to identify job-killing regulations that should be repealed.

With decades of deal-making experience, the President also understands how critical it is to negotiate the best possible trade deals for the United States. By renegotiating existing trade deals, and taking a tough stance on future ones, we will ensure that trade agreements bring good-paying jobs to our shores and support American manufacturing, the backbone of our economy. The President plans to show America’s trading partners that we mean business by ensuring consequences for countries that engage in illegal or unfair trade practices that hurt American workers.

By standing side-by-side with America’s workers and businesses, the President’s policies will unleash economic growth, create 25 million new jobs, and help Make America Great Again.

OBAMACARE FACT OF THE DAY

FACT: According to the most recent data, 1,066,360 families in Texas paid $247.5 million in penalties to the IRS for the right not to purchase health insurance.

WHITE HOUSE UPDATES

President Trump delivered remarks to the people of Poland saying, “I declare today for the world to hear that the West will never, ever be broken. Our values will prevail. Our people will thrive. And our civilization will triumph. So, together, let us all fight like the Poles – for family, for freedom, for country, and for God.

Polish Ambassador to the United States Piotr Wilczek on the Unbreakable Polish-American Bond, “On Thursday, as an active member of NATO and the European Union, Poland hosts President Trump on his second international trip. This visit will demonstrate the unbreakable bonds between Poland and the U.S. and address the challenges facing our neighborhood and the broader Euro-Atlantic community.”

President Trump met in Hamburg, Germany with Chancellor Angela Merkel of Germany to coordinate on key policy areas ahead of the G20 Summit.

Vice President Pence delivered remarks at the Kennedy Space Center where he reaffirmed the Trump Administration’s commitment to lead in space exploration and discovery.

The Congressional Budget Office is using a starting point from 2016 to predict the impact of repealing and replacing Obamacare that has already been proven inaccurate. The CBO has consistently failed to accurately predict how legislation will impact health insurance coverage.

Myth vs. Reality: Democrats are claiming the healthcare bill currently being considered by the Senate will “cut” Medicaid. However, under this bill Medicaid would increase from $393 billion this year to $464 billion in 2027—and that’s adjusting for inflation. Clearly, not a “cut.”

“Trump’s Defining Speech”

– Editorial Board, The Wall Street Journal

The Wall Street Journal Editorial Board praised President Trump’s historic speech in Warsaw, noting it “offered the core of what could become a governing philosophy,” and is a “determined and affirmative defense of the Western tradition.” The speech “contained affirmation of ideas and principles and related them to the current political moment,” but it’s “most provocative argument was about our way of life,” the Journal wrote, noting the speech was both a warning to the West and a call to action.

Domestically, The Washington Examiner’s Paul Bedard cites the Trump administration’s efforts to bolster “its campaign to deport criminal illegal immigrants by getting countries to stop blocking the transfers and take them back.” Because of the effort, “countries that refuse to take back illegals has been cut in half,” representing a “big win for Trump,” Bedard writes.
